There is no escape
When I was in high school, I wanted to drop out and learn to live in the woods. As ridiculous as that sounds, I knew that at the time and despite having some level of self awareness, not much has changed.
Hot damn!
Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
Here I am, approaching my 40s, hoping to abandon social media and live in a world free of ai while some how connecting with strangers and selling my art without leaving the house. Obviously, that isn’t going to work but it hasn’t stopped me from trying.
No matter how much I protest, social media and ai are now requirements. I can kick and scream to infinity but it won’t change the reality of the situation. If I had the budget, I could simply buy my way around all of this with ads and agencies because everything has a cost.
Before ai search engines, we knew about SEO but now in this new world there’s Generative Engine Optimization GEO. The humans with the most verifiable credentials and unique insights will be chosen by generative search engines. For example: If you search for dragon juice, the search engine will chose a few sites that best explain what dragon juice is and will summarize (regurgitate) whatever the user wants to know in a quick and simple to read form.
Rather than someone wasting hours searching the internet and reading pages, the ai will save you the trouble of even needing to visit a website at all. This is called a “zero click” search. So, basically the likelihood of someone just stumbling across my site is now virtually impossible as 60% to 70% of searches are zero click searches.
Smaller sites will have to work even harder to be seen so I must use everything at my disposal to gain visibility. I must show up everywhere and hope the ai will use my site for something relevant. I’ll need to use social media, I’ll need to show up in marketplaces, and most importantly I’ll need to leave the house.
Damn.
