The end of Shed Land

Before we begin the wacky universe of my upcoming series “Ruction”, this is the part along the journey where I collect everything I’ve created over the past six years and drop it in a folder labeled old s̶h̶i̶t̶ stuff.

For those who are wondering, (I doubt anyone has wondered) this collection had a loose theme that I will now sort of explain.

I love theme parks and festivals, so I had this idea where my mind would be a theme park inhabited by random patrons and park attendees.

In the spirit of Jurassic Park, everything would go wrong and the guest would be terrorized by whatever art I was working on at the time. The art would serve as the park attractions as different fictional cartoon people ran for their lives.

This idea was all over the place, and I never really nailed it down. I never followed up on the comics, I never explained the lore, and I never got around to the actual “terror” part. In fact, the only terror in this project was the terrible execution.

Just because Ruction is my new arch, it doesn’t mean that I will completely abandon all of the ideas from the Shed Land collection. There are some characters that will eventually return in Ruction, such as the Zen Gobln. (goblin)

The original Zen Gobln was much more frightening, but my partner convinced me to tone it down because it was very unsettling. At the time, I cared more about trying to please a wider audience so her advice was very helpful. But now, in this dystopian generative ai hellscape, being authentic is more important than ever so the original Zen Gobln will return.

I’ve been told over the past few years that my work is weird, dark, and often confusing / nonsensical. I’ve been told that it’s not corporate enough. I’ve been told that it’s boring. I’ve watched my loved ones fall asleep as I showed them my work. I’ve also been told that I should just let it all go and quit.

I’ll add those opinions to the folder as well.

Thanks for reading.
